Welcome
This year we are proud to host our sixteenth annual conference at Tustin High on Saturday, November 22 and Sunday, November 23, 2008. We will be hosting both advanced and novice committees simultaneously providing a one day conference experience for beginning MUN students and two days of conference meetings for experienced MUN students.
Novice Program
Students participating in our one-day novice committees can expect the same structure and proceedings familiar to them from most California MUN programs. Students will need to research the two topics that will be covered in their committee and submit policy papers based on the position of their assigned country. Novice students are encouraged to give a general policy speech on both topics during the day and engage with fellow committee members in substantive debate and the drafting, presentation, and voting on of resolutions.
Advanced Program
Students participating in our two-day advanced committees will be required to prewrite resolutions on each of three topics that will be assigned in their committees unless otherwise directed by committee chairs. These resolutions will be available on our website docket one week before the start of the conference. During the conference, advanced students will move directly into substantive debate on each of the three assigned topics and participate with their fellow committee members in the combination and ammendment of the committee's prewritten resolutions.
Awards
The THSMUN Secretariat will highlight exceptional student participation with a concluding awards ceremony. An awards ceremony will be held on Saturday during which exceptional novice students from each committee will be recognized with commendations, outstanding delegate awards, and research awards. An awards ceremony will be held on Sunday during which exceptional advanced students from each committee will be recognized with commendations, outstanding delegate awards, and a gavel for the best participant in each committee. Exceptional performance conference-wide by country delegations will also be recognized with school delegation awards.
Food and Facilities
Lunch will be provided on both days of the conference. Vegetarian meals will be available. Snack bars will also be open throughout both days of the conference. A lounge will be available for advisors and parent volunteers.
